Melioracija yra naujos žemės kūrimo procesas iš tokių vietų kaip jūra, ežerai, upių vagos ir pan. Bendras melioracijos tikslas – padidinti turimos žemės, kuri galėtų būti panaudota ekonominiam naudojimui, pavyzdžiui, žemės ūkiui, būstui ar pramonei, kiekį.
Melioracijos projektai buvo naudojami per visą žmonijos istoriją. Pavyzdžiui, didelė dalis Bangladešo ir Nyderlandų buvo atkovota iš pelkių ir pelkynų. Lietuvoje daugelis drėgnų ir net pelkėtų vietų melioracijos būdu buvo atsikovota sovietmečiu.
Yra dvi veiklos rūšys, kurios paprastai vadinamos melioracija. Viena dažniausiai yra šlapžemių ir vandens kelių zonose, kurios modifikuojamos siekiant jas paversti tinkama žeme, o kartais ir uodams kontroliuoti ir pan. Kita – atkurti pažeistą žemę į pirminę būklę, pavyzdžiui, atkurti gamtos procesų pažeistus paplūdimius. Abiejose veiklose gali prireikti papildomų procesų, tokių kaip dirvožemio valymas ir atkūrimas, kad žemė būtų tinkamai atkurta taip, kad ją būtų galima panaudoti naujai.
Melioracijos būdai
Melioracijos tikslais galima naudoti daugybę skirtingų metodų, priklausomai nuo žemės tipo, užpildo medžiagos tipo, pagrindo grunto, jūros dugno topografijos, smulkios medžiagos buvimo ir pan.
Sausas metodas
Galbūt paprasčiausias būdas yra užpildyti reikiamą plotą didelėmis ir sunkiomis uolienomis ir (arba) cementu, o po to molio ar kitokio dirvožemio pagalba iki reikiamo aukščio, vadinamo „užpildymu”. Tačiau šis metodas gali būti pažeidžiamas dirvožemio suskystėjimui, kai yra seisminis aktyvumas. Kai kaip užpildo medžiaga buvo naudojamas granuliuotas gruntas, šis metodas paprastai sukelia purų užpildo profilį, todėl gali prireikti sutankinti atkurtą žemę.
Hidraulinis melioracijos metodas
Šis šlapias metodas naudojamas, kai užpildo medžiaga gaunama iš atviroje jūroje naudojamo šaltinio, tačiau tinka tik granuliuotam dirvožemiui, turinčiam geras drenažo savybes. Paprastai iš apačios atidaroma barža neša užpildymo medžiagą iš skolinimo šaltinio ir išmeta ją aikštelės vietoje. Paprastai tai tinka 6–8 m gylio jūros dugnui. Melioracijos proceso greitis priklausys nuo naudojamų baržų skaičiaus, taip pat nuo atstumo tarp skolinimosi šaltinių ir aikštelės vietos.
Perdirbimo metodas
Tai apima baržų naudojimą užpildo medžiagai transportuoti ir išpilti į laikiną saugojimo duobę, kurios talpa gali siekti kelis milijonus kubinių metrų. Perdirbimo duobės vieta dažniausiai parenkama natūralioje įduboje ant tvirto jūros dugno arba sukuriama gilinant.
Hidraulinio užpildymo būdas
Šis metodas netinka, kai jūros dugnas per seklus arba jūros dugno dirvožemis per minkštas. Užpildo medžiaga gilinama iš skolinimo šaltinio, o po to pumpuojama per išleidimo vamzdį aikštelės vietoje, paprastai naudojant užpildo medžiagos ir vandens mišinį, reguliuojamą pagal grūdelių dydį. Galimas tiesioginis siurbimas nuo skolinimosi šaltinio iki sklypo, kartais net iki 10 km atstumu. Šis metodas tinka granuliuotiems užpildams ir paprastai naudojamas, kai pildoma iš šaltinio jūroje – iš perdirbimo duobės arba priekabos siurbimo bunkerio žemsiurbės.
Smėlio barstymo būdas
Šis metodas naudojamas, kai yra seklus jūros dugnas arba jūros dugno dirvožemis per minkštas hidrauliniam užpildymui. Ant nedidelės plūduriuojančios baržos sumontuotas barstytuvas, o smėlis kartu su vandeniu išleidžiamas per vamzdžio perforacijas.
